What is individual health insurance?
Any health coverage for an individual or family that is not part of a group (i.e., not job-based coverage). For alternative health insurance plans that are not qualifying major medical plans under Obamacare (e.g., short term medical), applicants are subject to medical underwriting and may be denied coverage based on pre-existing health conditions and medical history. All individual major medical plans are regulated under the ACA and are guaranteed issue, meaning individuals cannot be denied coverage due to pre-existing conditions and medical history.
